Dining Services offers many benefits to students who need extra money or want to gain practical job experience while attending Virginia Tech. Students gain valuable skills and establish a good work ethic that will assist them in their employment endeavors following graduation.

Undergraduate and graduate students must be enrolled in a degree-granting program with a minimum of 6 credits/hours per semester to be eligible to work for Dining Services. The average full-time student works 15 hours per week, however students can work less or more to best fit their needs and schedule.

Stay On Campus

Virginia Tech has 14 dining centers, which offer many employment opportunities for students. The on-campus location makes traveling to work easy for students taking classes on campus. The Blacksburg Transit bus system runs daily, providing a convenient and safe commute to work.

As a Virginia Tech student, academics should be your number one priority. That's why Dining Services offers flexible hours that work around your class schedule. Dining managers work with you to make sure that your education comes first.

Get Free Food with Every Shift

With every shift you work, you will receive a free meal voucher to use in selected dining locations. Not only does Dining Services pay you for your hard work, they also want to make sure that you are eating well.

Get Paid $10.00 per Hour

Dining Services offers a starting pay of $10.00 per hour and Personal Touch Catering, our on-campus catering service, starts at $10.25 per hour. The starting pay for other local restaurants averages around only $8-9 per hour. Not only will you save money on gas, but you will also earn over 15 percent more money.

Use your time in college to help build your resume and develop professional skills for your future career. Dining services offers leadership and management positions to student employees, with pay for Student General Managers starting at $11.00 per hour. Some employees who worked for us as students have even advanced to become operations managers or associate directors for the Virginia Tech dining program.

As a student employee, you will gain valuable career skills in leadership, teamwork, professional responsibility, and customer service.

At work, you will have the opportunity to meet new people outside of your classes and residence halls. Working in a team environment will allow you to build relationships with co-workers and even expand friendships outside of the workplace.

In order to begin employement with Virginia Tech Dining Services, students will need to provide proper ID and documentation to their hiring manager.
